Default For all of you AWD wh0res.

I was sent this today, (I've been doing some research...)

With 18x9 front and 18x10 rear wheels, the closest tire match was 245/40 and 275/35.

Location Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
FRONT 245/40-18 3.9in 12.9in 25.7in 80.8in 784 0.0%
REAR 275/35-18 3.8in 12.8in 25.6in 80.4in 788 -0.5%

Correct me if I am wrong, but even matching up tires for a diameter difference of .4 inches, my front wheels will spin 784 times in a mile and the rears will spin 788 times in a mile. Being AWD, this would probably rip my transfer case apart.

AWD guys, is this doable?

It's called a differential.

Do the math and look at the difference between the left and right wheel when you blow a U Turn.

If you have a VC in the center diff, then eventually, running different sizes like that will wear it out and you will lose AWDGoodness.

Personally, unless the manufacturer does it (different size wheels) I wouldn't do it. No idea how long your VC would last.

wouldn't the same thing happen if you had new tires on one end and rather bald tires on the other?

That thought crossed my mind last night. There has to be "some" tolerance to the vc/transfer case.

I'm just not sure if .4 inch is too much...

.4" = 13/32"

That is such a small number.. honestly that should be normal tire wear. Well, uneven tire wear.. but it seems that it is soo small that I wouldn't see it as a porblem.. but it's not my car so it's not my decision.

Considering your car is a vr4. according to GT-Pro you can put 18x9.5s front and rear with a 3mm spacer in the front to clear the rotors. I dunno about rubbing when you turn but wouldn't it be better to do that then to take a chance?

Chris, the difference in overall tire/wheel diameter that I am worried about comes from running two different width wheels/tires front and rear. 18x9.5 all around would be fine. I don't like the idea of a spacer though... maybe if it was hubcentric.

blah.

yeah thats what i was talking about. Figured you'd want the widest wheel possible in the rear so to run the same all around you would have to go by what you can fit in the front. which would be 9.5 with the spacer. Thats if you didn't want to take a chance with slight diffrences from a stagered set-up
