I would like to ask someone over a phone questions about the Ignition Assembly on a 99 civic in the steering column.

I am having a issue with it not picking up the position 2 on the assembly, where it activates the fuel pump, computer and shift lock solenoid. Some times I rotate the key and it will not pick up the the position 2 also where the lights in the gauge area won't show up, you don't hear the fuel pump come on, or the computer doing its check.

I rotate the ignition 6 or 7 times nothing, then maybe the 8th or 9th it picks up on it being in the position 2, but I could be driving hit a bump or stop at a light/parking spot and it cuts off suddenly.

I know it definitly seems like it has to do with the ignition assembly, has anyone else had this happen? Or know what causes this?

get a new ignition assembly. i just changed one out on a customers car. they are super easy to replace. but that is your problem. you can narrow it down by looking for loose connections but itll be easier just to replace the thing.

The switch contacts are worn; you have the most common and easy to diagnose problem.

It was the ignition assembly. Replaced with one from advance auto online for 130.00, works like a champ now.

Check your main relay. When they are going bad, you have to cycle numerous times to get them warm to begin working.

I don't think you actually read the last post. The problem is fixed, and it wasn't the main relay.
