Default 95 civic guage cluster issue (needles)

just got a new guage cluster for my eg...and having a problem with the fuel guage on it...it always reads full tank, as high as it will go...it won't drop...installed my old cluster back and it went to half tank...while the new one will only always read full...anybody know some kind of way to fix this or a part i need to buy for it...it's a nice clean ass cluster with low miles i'd hate to trash it.

Could be something as simple as a fatigued solder joint on the input connector(s), but if it isn't that I wouldn't bother messing with it.

I'm sure it's probably repairable, like most electronics, but you'd have to find someone with the skills and equipment to troubleshoot and fix it. I'm saying it's probably not worth it if you can just grab another cluster, unless it's something easy to spot like a fatigued solder joint. If this was some ultra-rare cluster it would be different, but it's an EG cluster...

I had a similar problem as you on an accord cluster that I swapped out. Did you disconnect the battery before changing them? I am asking this because when I hooked up my new cluster it fried the little motor that controls the gas needle. I ended up swapping the motor from the old cluster on to the new one and it worked flawlessly but I made sure to unhook the battery first.

no, i didn't think to unhook the battery...but a guy told me last night to do the same thing, swap out the little motor and it ought to work...was it hard to do?

currently in the process off pulling the cluster apart...how do the needles come off in order to remove the faces of the guages? just pull them off? they don't seem to wanna pull off real easy.

maybe you just need to put in more gauges?? like maybe a gauge to tell you how much your new gas gauge is off by.
