Default 95 Accord Problem - check engine, speedometer, gear indicator

I have a 95 Accord EX. The speedometer stopped working and check engine light came on. A few minutes later, the gear indicator light started flashing while still in D4. I took it to Advance Auto Parts to get the check engine light serviced, but the guy told me he didn't have a plug for OBD1. He suggested taking it to Pep Boys, which I will do tomorrow.

Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Also, where is the plug located to service the check engine light?

There is no plug....its a two wire connector under pass side dash. U jump the two wires and count the light flashes. The code u have is Code 17 Speedometer. Light is on as a cause of the speedo going inop. Also causing the gear light to flash. The TCU uses the speedo signal to decide when to shift gears and what not. Therfore it lost an input and is flashing the D4 light to tell u so...The Check engine is how the ECU tells u somethins wrong...the D4 light is how the TCU tells u somethings wrong. ---> Fix the speedo and all problems will be resolved. Two causes of speedo are either the sensor (on the transmission) or the head (in the gauge cluster). Both of which go bad commonly. You'll have to either test them or u can just try the sensor (which is MORE common, cheaper, and doesnt cause u to lose your odometer reading). Good luck bro.

Thanks for the info. Checked it out and realized it was the speed sensor. Looking for a replacement online. Do you think there is a difference between OEM ($110), AM Autoparts ($35), and Ebay ($18)?

Nah....as long as it works. lol. OEM one may come with the whole head (may be the reason for price difference?). But...all you really need is the sensor itself.
