If the fan is kicking on, swap the thermostat. When you refill the 'water' do you burp the coolant system before you cap it off & start driving, could have alot of airpockets also. IF nothing else buy a new radiator &/or reroute the heater hoses to cancel out the heater core also....

Sounds like the radiator is clogged if the thermostat isnt stuck..

Replace the thermostat thats cheap & real easy to do.

Like $15 if that from advance w/ the gasket.

do you have the right cap? you can put a new cap on and the coolant could be pushing past it still

Overheat issues are hard to diag. One of the best tests you can perform is just touching and feeling for hot and cold spots in the cooling sys. But, the sys. needs to be free of air for this to be accurate. Finding cold spots could indicate a blockage or maybe a T-stat stuck closed. Swollen seals on the radiator cap is often overlooked and will cause air pockets but won't leak externaly.

When at running temp. does the lower radiator hose get 'hot'? Or is it cold to the touch, def. a sign of thermostat being stuck also.
