Default 85 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo electrical woes

Recently the car would not start.Checked, there was no spark.Wired coil directly to battery (with a ballast resistor in line)Car run fine for 10 days. Now car runs for a minute or 2 then stops. Will start right back up.Check the coil wire with a tester and there is a momentary power outage and the car stops.Changed coil,no differnce.Any ideas? Also anyone have a wiring diagram for car?(Not Chilton or Haynes)

Something is not triggering the coil properly, or whatever switches power to the coil. I don't know anything about those cars, but I can lend some generic help. There are 3 parts really, something that triggers the coil (ECU, etc), something to switch the big power across the coil, and the coil itself. The coil sounds fine, and I'm willing to bet it's whatever switches power across the coil every firing cycle. It's most likely a bigass mosfet or something along those lines, it's got an internal short most likely, and is shutting itself off after 2 minutes because it's getting too hot. When it cools down it will work properly again until it heats back up. So take a look at the rest of your ignition system. I really don't know what type of stock ignition system you have though, so this may not apply to you at all..

its either an ASD relay, or the pickup in the dist.

if i had a way to digitize it, i would be happy to. however, i can only get small pieces to come out when i do a screen shot.

that, and am busy as fuck at work.

underneath your distributor there a thing called the "HEP" Hall-Effect Pickup. they go bad, and you are screwed. you may be able to find a use-able one at u wrench it or something like that. or get one new.

that is the pickup under the distributor that fc735 is talking about. they are notorious for going out.

hope this helps.

and check out www.turbododge.com its a great site and lots of help from the dudes over there.
