Default 2G Eclipse Tranny

My friend just recently purchased a 1997 Eclipse GS-T, bone stock. It has some issues with squeaky belts, but other than that it seems alright. He does have some grinding into certain gears. 1st and 3rd I believe. Like it takes alot of force to get it to go into gear even just sitting at light. He doesn't dog the car much and since it's stock and pretty clean I doubt the previous owner did too much either. Any ideas? Also, would a non-turbo tranny work for the 4G63T motor?

syncromesh helps with very slight grinds, or smoother shifting on transmissions with no problems. your tranny sounds like its far beyond what syncromesh could help.

if its serious grinding then no syncromesh won't help. I would try to drain your tranny fluid and see ifn you have any metal shavings. If you do kiss it goodbye and call shepracing up for a rebuild.
