2004 rx8 hard to start..
I recently bought a 2004 Rx8 for 10,000. Has 80,000 miles on it.. its kind of hard to start tho, it cranks for around 3-5 seconds then starts and its the power is weak under 3k rpm's. An help would be great, I know nothing about these motors, also I was told they have a chatter sound to them when revved up. Is this true?

define "weak." in case you didn't know RX-8s have rotary motors which are terrible for reliability. and the 1.3L rotaries have absolutely no torque so i wouldn't expect it to pull hard at low rpms.

I've heard from past rx8 owners that if you don't let it reach operating temperature before shutting the motor off it will flood. There's a process to clear the motor out that you could try, but I don't remember it off hand.

It feels and sounds like its not getting gas when i start to rev it up. But my main concern is the starting problem, Some people have told me that it means the motor is about to go out, which ive seen alot of people on other threads talking about how the motors can go bad if not cared for correctly. This is my first rotary motor car, I have had 350Z, SRT-4's and Celica GTS's.. Just wanted to try out the rotary and see if its all its cracked up to be.. Now am wanting to figure out if I made a big mistake lol

you made the mistake when you purchased it before looking for info about it...rotary have to be cared for...which noone does...

what he said. you have to be really knit picky when maintaining these. all i can tell you to do is order a rebuild kit and try to do it yourself, and give it a port while you're at it.

normally if you just start them and shut them off its almost impossible to get started again ... then a ton of white smoke wwill pour out the exhaust ... try running some BG 44k through the fuel system ...it seems to work magic sometimes
