Default 2002 nissan maxima MAF help.

Year build date:11/01
Make:Nissan
Model: Maxima
Engine: 3.5ltr V6
Transmission: Auto

I have had an aftermarket intake on my car for over a year now. NON OIL Filter. The other day the Engine light comes on and the car falls flat on it's face into default mode. (ECM cutting fuel and RPM limit to 2400)

After checking the code the car showed MAF low voltage. Well I had the ECM hooked up to Diagnostics and it show no change in the voltage on the sensor, when the throttle was pushed in and out while running. So began the digging for info on price and avaliblilty on the sensor.
Most places checked it was a round 327.00 or so. But my question is. Has anyone had to take there nissan back to the dealership for a ECM reflash and an IDLE Relearn? Because everyplace that I have checked says "Your gonna have to take it to the dealer to get the ECM to recognize the new MAF"

did you try just cleaning the pickup? i have no real experience with the vq motor. but i know my way around a qr rather well, and tons of times when they became dirty they would throw off and send the car straight into limp mode.

To answer your question-YES...there is probably an update needed for your specific MAF and computer/programming.

Perform TSB NTB03-023. The Engine Control Module (ECM) will need to be reprogrammed after replacing the MAF sensor and air filter element.

Your MAF should be at 2.0 to 6.0 grams at warm idle and 7.0 to 20.0 grams at 2500 RPM no load.
