car cranks....turns normall speed just sounds weak, doesnt even try to fire up, and also reaks of fumes from the intake after trying to start, its a friends car, someone told them piston is locked up but the engine rotates and has no noises that sound like major failure

Start with obvious, spark, fuel and so on. Will most likely have fuel as it reaks of it, but you cant go by the smell alone. Whoever said a piston is locked up probably has no idea whats goign on because it makes no sense. Start with basic troubleshooting, nobody is going to know what it is nor will be able to point you in the right direction with this little info and nothing done from the side of you/your friend.
