2001 Ford Taurus Starting problems Please Help!!!!

Ok, Let me give a little background information and maybe that will help you help me.

I recently purchased this car and have had nothing but problems since. When I first got it I knew that it needed an AC compressor, considering I don't ever use the AC because it makes me sleepy, it wasnt an issue for me until it started burning belts. Than one day after work, I hopped into my car and drove across the steet to the store to grab a drink. Wasn't in the store for even 5 minutes, I come out, get in the car and turn the key, it turned over but didnt want to start. So I gave it a little gas it started and as soon as I let my foot off of the gas it cut off. After some troubleshooting I discovered that the AC compressor had completley locked up and wasnt allowing any of the other pulleys to move, so the car wouldnt start.

It sat for about 2 months or so until the compressor was replaced. After having the compressor replaced the battery light popped on so I ordered an alternator and the car sat for about another 2 months before I was able to get it on.

Now when I try to start it I'll turn the key and the motor will turn about a half time than I won't get anything else from it. I can use the radio and other accessories, the car just won't turn over.

I can hear the fuel pump engange, I had took the starter off and had it tested and it is good.

If i unhook the battery and leave it for a few days and try it again, I have the same issue. Turns over about a half time, than nothing else. I can hear a sound that sounds like its coming from the area where the fuse box is under the hood, but that is the only response I can get from it.

If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. it is a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL V6 24V. The eighth letter of the vin is S

I had the same issue more or less in my 99 v6 contour I just got. Started and drove fine for the first 2 weeks, drove to 711 one night and it wouldn't crank. Banged on the solenoid and got nothing. Ended up redoing the battery terminals and took sandpaper to the battery posts, started right up, hasn't gave me any issues since. These seem to be very touchy setups when it comes to those things, so if you have any rust or corrosion, I'd say replace terminals or thoroughly clean everything and make sure it's good.

Seems like 711 is the death of Fords because that's where the AC compressor locked up at. Costed me 80 bucks to tow not even a mile across the street. Terminals are new, and I had the battery checked just to be sure it wasn't that and still nothing but ill try the sand paper on the posts. Any other ideas?

Thank you

Hard to say without seeing the symptoms in person really, the starter turning for a second then stopping seems like there's resistance in the engine keeping it from turning beyond the initial torque hitting the engine. Is it an auto or 5 speed? Just a shot in the dark, but if it's a manual, try to push start it and see if it runs fine. If it starts and runs, then you know you have an issue in the starting system or the electrical. Since you tested the starter, I'd say you have connection issues if it runs and drives fine after that.

Sadly most of the threads I'd found on various forums while searching for input on my car had nothing but idiots who've never worked on these before. Talking about external solenoids and stuff that isn't even used on these engines.

You can google the neutral safety switch location, either on the back side of the tranny or just below the shifter console. The PATS system has a flash sequence you can pull up and find out if thats the issue.

The neutral switch is notoriously terrible in these an can go out at anytime, especially in an overnight instance. I would make sure you don't have another problem first before tackling that as it is rather expensive and difficult to replace so I hear
