Oh, the timing job on those 1UZs is a rather involved process too. The last one I did felt like I took off damn near a million pieces before I was through...

When you say "no codes", are you getting the all clear signal (steady flashing) or no light or steady light? No light or steady light during diagnostics means dead ecu.

Yeah, I think without verifying timing you're going to do a lot of tail chasing; it's such a fundamental driver for problems like you're looking at, so knowing the timing is proper is crucial as a troubleshooting baseline.

May sound stupid, but have you checked your gas? I know someone who's camaro had nearly an identical issue. They had 'ran out' of gas, put some in, and it was doing the same thing. Bunch of shops quoted her a couple hundred for a new fuel pump. After dicking with it for about 30 min, I took some 'gas' out of the schrader valve. Turns out 'running out' of fuel was someone siphoning the gas out of her tank and in the process of, putting about a half gallon of water in the tank.
