Default 1996 VW Golf Gl Help?

I am picking up one of these near the end of the month. Its auto and completely stock, I am not an auto tech in the least and was just wondering If anyone had any exphttp://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/erience with Golfs who could help me.

I'm looking to make It quicker, anything that could help me with that would be good. If you can tell me about a specific part then could you include rough pricing?

Thanks alot.
