Re: 1995 SUBURBAN TRANNY PROBLEMS HELP!!!
Reverse is not controlled by the electrical solenoids, it is totally mechanical. There are some TSB's against the reverse servo: see TSB (technical service bulletin) 04-07-30-028A (Google it) addressing fluid leaks, but since this mechanical servo is for reverse-you may want to take it out for inspection before spending big bucks on a complete transmission overhaul. Also, make sure your shift linkage is tight and not flopping around or the arm is loose, try to manually shift it into reverse from under the truck.
I hate to say it but most NO REVERSE casualties are an internal failure of sun gear (stripped) and was finally fixed on 4LXX series in 2001 (I am assuming you have a 1/2 ton with 4L60e or 4l65 Transmission).
The upgrades sun sheel is like $50 and you should also upgrade all other available parts. if you pull the transmission yourself-you can usually get it "benched" for $250-300 plus parts (about $300-500) and have a nice upgraded transmission. I am heavily guessing (like a 98% chance) than your sun gear (sun shell) is stripped. This happens when you throw it into reverse too quickly from drive or from park at high RPM's and is EXTREMELY common.

M30 is the 4L60e and the option M1's are the 80e series. I would stick with a 4x4 transmission as the input and output shafts can vary in length
