Exclamation 1995 Honda Civic Ex with VTEC 1.6L ECT Sensor Issue.

My ECU is telling me that my ECT Sensor has issues. I went to Oriley's to get a new piece and then I put it in. This is the part they gave me:
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...37&keyword=ect

I installed it correctly and reset my ECU. Checked the ECU again (paper clip technique) and getting the same error reading. 6 quick flashes = ECT Sensor.

Did Orilley's give me the wrong sensor? I understand there is a switch, coolant sensor to fan, and coolant sensor to ECU.

1. What does the ECT sensor to ECU look like?
2. What sensor did Orilley's Give me?
3. Where is the ECT sensor to ECU located if it is not the part from Orilley's?

I am a not very car literate so detailed instructions to find the sensor is appreciated. Or related pictures. I have been searching forums and google all morning and have not found out the fix yet...

Symptoms my car is having include: Rough Idle (been since I purchased) and Failure to start (as of today and few times after parking and returning to drive again. Today is first time it will not start after multiple tries).

The Oreilys link is not cooperating. Which one of these did you replace?

The engine coolant temperature sensor. Not the sending unit. She told me it could be possible wire fault causing the ECU to tell me there is a problem. But I dont see any wire issues.

How are you determining that you don't have wiring issues??? Have you done a continuity check between the ECU connector and the temp sensor connector, and have you checked that there is 5V at the sensor connector with the key on?? Looking at a wire doesn't tell anything, unless you can see inside it with magic superpowers.

ECT sensor and your Coolant Temperature Sensor for your gauges are different.

Im just saying i dont see any obvious wiring issues. I was just hoping that maybe it was the wrong sensor is all, i dont want to go to the degree of wiring testing but i guess i have too ><

After you replaced the sensor, did you clear the codes and drive until the light came back on?

Or did you clear the codes and check again right away?

Yeah, usually when you have an issue like this, you have to clear the code(s) and drive for a mile or so.

Ah that I was not aware of, I just cleared and checked. I will go check again now that I have driven since then.

You can replace sensors all day long and it won't fix anything if the sensor isn't to blame. Blindly replacing parts isn't the way to troubleshoot problems.
