Default 1995 civic erratic idle?

What would cause a stock 1995 civic to have an erratic idle? While in park the car will rev up then go back down then rev up and go back down, it just keeps doing this. Yesterday it did this same thing while the car was in drive. Its automatic so it now is at a dangerous point where it is trying to rev up while its in drive. Is this a common problem in older Honda's? Would a dirty Idle Air Control valve cause something like this? This is not my car so I am not super familiar with it. Also are these cars OBDII? If so where is the diag. port?

95 is obd1

sounds like the idle air control but as far as whats happening while your driving, I'm guessing it's just because its an auto. You can take the two bolts out and clean the sylinoid, check the o-ring and screen, wort case, you need a new one.

Thanks for that link, that does seem to have some very helpful information. Did you have the hunting idle issue as well? I know the guy who wrote the article is saying the hunting idle is usually caused by a faulty FITV. Did you "screw yours in" or buy a new one? If you got a new one did you get if from the dealer or the parts store and how much was it?
