Default 05 Colorado with 100 octane mix?

A friend and I are experimenting with mixing a half tank of 100 octane with 93 octane to achieve around a 96-97 octane tank of gas. He has an 05 Colorado with the 4cyl 2.8 Vortec motor with self adjutiming timing. Will the extra octane be ok just for a tank of gas or two with the stock timing or would it have to be adjusted in some way. We just wanna see if you can really feel the difference. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Preston

Your car probably won't even know the difference..

You should run your car at the track with 93 octane, then dump in the 100 octane, run it again and see if it traps any higher. That will tell you if it does anything. I'd go with the needle close to E so you don't have to dump in very much 100 octane. When I used to mix, I would fill to 1/4 tank and then dump in 5 gallons of 100. Or just buy 110 because its the same price and is more effective per unit. It is 105 MON whereas the 100 octane is only 95 MON. The only benefit of the 100 octane over the 110 is the 100 octane has a higher specific gravity, so it probably won't affect A/F ratios as much. And of course, 110 is leaded.. Either way, it won't be noticable.. It will be fun for shits and giggles, plus race fuel smells great.. Have fun

It was obviously a real question. Im not sure of what would happen and neither is he, thats why it was asked. A real dumbass would have just done this and not bothered to even check if it was safe. That is all.

man....the higher the octane rating the harder it is for the fuel to burn. hence the reason it has a higher resistance to detonation. your colorado may even run worse than if you were running 87 octane. so unless you are boosted or have high compression, nitrous, then you have no need to run anything higher than 87 octane. but hey, its your money to waste

most people have a common misconception that high octane fuel will yeild higher performance. while in performance oriented engines this may be partially true, but in the normal passenger vehicle 87 octane will often yeild the best results!

Actually, higher octane fuel just yields a higher "Energy of activation,"

Its street legal unleaded racing fuel.. Its not gonna damage his car..

...which is exactly what he said. harder to burn. and what exactly makes it "racing fuel"?
