just got a tranny put in, unfrotuantly i get the bad news of buying used, 3rd has a slight grind and 5th wont stay in gear, but i can hold it in gear.

question is this, what would cause this, and since my fifth gear you can get to with out taking the tranny apart, would it be fixable with out dropping the tranny?

has anyone had this experience? if so what did you do

 

for 5th it could be you shift fork is bad..or the synchro

 

what would that intail ?

it may also be the detent for 5th that has gone bad...so your best bet like said before would just be to do a rebuild.

 

If it's a cable tranny it could be a bad/worn engine mount.

 

i dont have the money for a re build, ill just be holding that bitch in fifth for the next months to come i guess.
