Couple of people at Circuit City do it for a price. Just go up there and talk to someone who works in IQ crew.

I have my xbox modded with a different hard drive...xbox media center, etc. Did it all myself. I personally wouldn't trust doing some "under the counter" at circuit city....it's illegal for them and I wouldn't trust my money with them.

I'm going to try doing it myself I just wanted some recommendations on chipsand such. There's plenty of reading material, I just didn't feel like reading it all.

Well I have an older chip from a couple years ago...the Matrix chip, doesn't have to be soldered. But there are newer chips out now.

I think I'm going to try the xecutr or whatever it's called. They also have a solderless adapter, which is pretty nice.

Do you know if it matters what version of the chip I get. It seems they have an older version of the chip that's far cheaper than the newer.

Go here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips.php

That has a comparison of each modchip and its specifications. Also, that site has all the info and tutorials you will need to setup xbox media center and whatever else you want. If you get a modchip now I suggest you get a switchable one that allows you to turn it off when you want to play xbox live, if thats something you do.

Also...I would get xbox media player....it was the predecessor to xbox media center but many people don't like media center because the quality seems to be lower on movies.

Yeah I've been trying to figure out what version Xbox I have. I think its a 1.4 There's no positive way besides opening it up. I don't have any torx screwdrivers or whatever they are called laying around though. But I think I'll get the Xecutr 2.6, which has the on/off function you mentioned. It's $30 and then I'll keep in mind what you said about media player being better. That's really all I want to do is play divx, xvid, ogms, etc on my tv.
