Ls/vtec
hey guys im ttrying to get into this car stuff. i wanna get a light car like a del sol or a civic hb or something lke that but i also wanna swap out the motor. ppl suggest that i put a ls/vtec motor in it. i dont doubt then but wat is the advantage in a ls/vtec motor?
LS/Vtec hybrids offer some of the best power/cost out of any honda engine. They work by using the famous Vtec "solenoid" and changing the cam profile in mid-rev. This cam profile holds the intake and exhaust valves (on B series engines) open for longer periods of time; thus producing better airflow. When you combine this with larger displacement (1834cc for the LS as compared to 1797cc for the GSR), it produces about 10-20 more hp. What you are basicly doing here is taking the best out of both the LS and GSR engines and putting them together. I have one in my hatchback and it is quite a jump over the D15 90hp MONSTER that was in there previously. LS engines are cheap, and the heads off of a B18C1 aren't too pricey (they usually cost around the same as the LS block). If you're looking for reliable horsepower, a well built LS/Vtec is a good step in the right direction.

the key word in that phrase above is " WELL BUILT" if you slack on the motor an rev it to 10k, your shits gonna go.....put the money into and you can build a monster motor, im hoping for at least 190whp with mine, 200whp would be nice though........and yes, ive put alot of money in this shit when im done the total cost i could have had me another turbo kit and a built bottom end and make double the power of this ls/vtec...but thats the all motor way of life, which ill prolly sell later and buy another turbo, ahaah.......
