Default yamaha fzr600

hey guys, im lookin at buyin my first bike pretty soon. I've done a lot of research on the bikes, and I've pretty much decided on getting a early 90's FZR600. But im just worried about a few things. Some say the yamaha transmissions are crap? and also my girlfriend will be riding with me sometimes, and the fzr has the raised seat, will this be a problem? And my last question is, The rear body paneling is pretty bulky and ugly on these bikes, but other than that i like the looks, so can i replace rear body pieces? thanks for your help, ryan

considering you can pick them up dirt cheap it would make an excellent starter bike, yamaha does have notoriously bad transmissions but as long as it checks out ok on the test ride it should hold up long enough for you to get your use out of it... as for the body, they do offer a R1-style set of bodywork for it that makes it look a little cleaner

the gears aren't much, its the labor that kills you... i would try and find one whose transmission doesn't have any bad gears, the last thing you want as a first bike is a project

the body work is made by AirTech

FZR's are good starter bikes and easy to modify. Got a stage 2 Jet kit, K&N air filter, Yoshimura slip on exhaust, lowered 3", and added a sprocket. Do you know how to ride? Do you got a license already-motorcycle?

Do you have any problems with it being lowered 3 inches? With speed bumps or anything? I dont have my license yet, I'm waitin to take the class so i can just get my license instead of permit.
