BUILT MOTOR? Discussion. READ
Ok I've noticed alot of post and threads on here stating that a motor is built. Is it just me or are people using this term to losly these days? I mean any proper car guy or someone who actually turns a wrench anymore, will say that a built motor is the whole nine. from pistons,rods,crank,bearings, proper machine work, tolerances, springs, retainers, valves, valve guides, port and polish, micropolish whatever, with other than stock parts. A built motor is a motor built. you don't hear an old car guy in his 40-65 saying that there 383 with a cam is built. or an LS1 guy with patriot heads saying it's built. Every aspect of an engine should be looked at and built with something other then factory parts pertaining to your build and needs/goals.
I want to here the concensis on this site, feel free to chime in negative or positive with your feelings, opinions, Anything. There has to be a point when car guys with dirty cloths, torn skin and clothes, drinking beer and wrenching on there cars into the early morning, stand up and point this out.
When did it get ok to say that you have anying thats built when you are running most stock parts, or when you have a tranny with an l.s.d in it, and say it's built. when is it ok to say i have a ford 9" rear with posi and say it's built......
This whole issue and the new gen of car guys is the reason after 15-20 years that imports are still looked at as a joke. I've been in the honda game now for about 15 years. and just when it seems to get better and take steps in the right direction, a new crop of kids send it back to the begining. I've watched from when it was just stripped down ratted out hondas with single cammers, progress to swaps and swapped turbos off of crappy cars, to built motors, to stupid huge wings, multi color, show and go, sleeper, grass roots, to the damn pep boy special and rice, to jdm craze twice to spocam.
This mainly brought from this site, but also a couple of pinks episodes, specially the one a couple years back where the honda hatch with single cam turbo and fake nitrous bottle, trying to race a pretty built fox body. and having the nerve to ask for 20 something lengths on national phucing tv. It is frustrating to be in this scene since the beginning. and still see it like this after all these years. I've watched good shops go out of business or never take off while the ones who never should of been made it. It's really disappointing to see something I love and have a passion hurt, nah bleed like this.....

I would love to hear from the older crowd, and Anyone that I might have raced with back in the 90's in pa or md. Also if any of the first nopi tour road trip guys are on here. that was a good ten years back.......
