Thumbs up i just painted my rims

after 6 hours of back breaking work...my del sol si (fat fives) turned out great!! here are the steps i took...for neone interested in painting their rims

1. sprayed with aircraft stripper
2. waited for it to set (make sure u wait at least 20 min or else it will be hard to get off)
3. wet sand with 360 grit sand paper
4. primered it with plasti-kote sandable primer made for metallic surfaces
5. sand primer with 400 grit sand paper
6. wiped down primer and dried it
7. 4-5 layers of plasti-kote hi-temp paint (some graphite dark gray color)
8. 2 layers of plasti-kote clearcoat

steps 1-4 are the most important...make sure u sand all the surfaces to rough it up to make it easier for the primer/paint to adhere. started at 11 and finished around 5. only cost 20 bucks too!!

ill try to post up some pix asap

I used clear on mine and it hasn't turned colors. Perhaps you just don't see it on black wheels?

I sanded the wheels down with 100 (?) grit sand paper, smoothed with 200. Taped off the outside rims and primed. Smoothed primer with 350 grit. Primed again. Sprayed 3 layers of semi-gloss black engine enamel and 1 coat of clear.

Not the best picture but you get the idea.
