Take a free hayride to the Great Pumpkin Patch open weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pumpkins are $2 each, or $15 for all-you-can-carry.
Haunted Evenings at Ashland Berry Farm start Friday, October 10. Take in the Haunted Carnival, Booger Woods and Grimwood Manor, all while doing some serious pumpkin picking at Ashland Berry Farm. Look out for the ghouls and goblins on the loose in Booger Woods. There's a hayride and straw maze too. Every Friday through Sunday at 7 p.m., plus Oct. 29 and 30. $10. New this year is the Haunted Carnival where a greenhouse has been transformed into a haunted house teeming with creepy clowns. Eew! Every Friday through Sunday at 7 p.m., plus Oct. 29 and 30. $6. Also new is Grimmwood Manor, a Halloween play by performers from the Virginia Renaissance Faire. $8.
Directions: Take U.S. Rte 1 north, four miles past the intersection of Rte. 54 and U.S. Rte 1, make a left off of U.S. Rte. 1 onto Old Ridge Rd. at the caution light. The Ashland Berry Farm is four miles ahead on your left. Be sure to call ahead as dates and times may vary during the week.
Scream Forest
October 10 - November 1
Dare to experience Scream Forest, a haunted walking adventure. They put you out in the woods ... on foot, with nothing between you and the creatures of the night ... where no one cares if you scream. Escape from the forest and you'll find the undertaker's cabin - a haunted house full of surprises. Scream Forest is scary entertainment and may not be appropriate for small children or those faint of heart. Tickets are $13 with discount coupons available on the website. Open Friday through Sunday, October 10 through 19, then open daily after October 23. Gates open at 7 p.m.
Directions: Take U.S. Route 33 (Staples Mill Road) West, six miles past I-295, approximately one mile past the intersection of 33 and 623 (the stoplight) take a left on route 670 (Stone Horse Creek Road). The entrance to Scream Forest will be the first road on your left, approximately half a mile from 33. Weather delays and cancellations can be found on the hotline (804) 752-6992.
