Default 5.0L guys - starting problems, need ideas

OK, so I've been trying to get the silver car up and running. It had been sitting a while. I know the battery was dead, so I've tried jumping it, but all I get is a click. So I'm thinking bad starter, toss another starter in that I got out of a running GT, same thing. Turn the key and just get a click. Ignition solenoid? Drop one in out of the same GT, same problem. So I start to look into it a little more as opposed to just throwing parts at it after that. With the jumper cables on it, it's getting almost 14v to the ignition side of the solenoid. Turn the key, you can feel the solenoid click, but only get 2v to the starter side. This doesn't seem right, so I tried jumping the solenoid and hitting the starter wire with 12v, but still get nothing. Disconnected the battery and hooked the wires directly up to the jumper cables to bypass the battery in the Mustang, same thing...14v to the ignition side, 2v to the starter side. Tried to jump the starter again, same problem. Nothing happens.

Any ideas? I'm figuring I'm overlooking something in my haste to get the problem fixed.

Yea, I could post in the tech section and let it get buried by honda questions in 2 hours where the guys I'm looking to hear from never read or post. GTFO newb.

Yea, it turns over by hand. I checked that the other day. Actually, now that you mention it, I've seen cars with bad grounds show those kind of voltage readings in the past. I bet a squirrel chewed through one of the ground wires while it was sitting in the back yard. Those little bastards eat everything in sight.

WTF m8? I said that without being a dick about it at all. That's what the fucking Tech section is for. Go fuck yourself, and I hope you never figure that shit out. Fucking dick.

For not meaning to be a dick about it, you sure succeeded. I've been here long enough to know where the best place is to get the answers I'm looking for. I don't need your sarcastic replies or advice on where to post, but thanks anyway.

Just checked the grounds, they're intact. It's not that complicated of a system...I know I'm just missing something simple. It's been too long since I've gotten my hands dirty.

Ha ha ha. I know where you are coming from but, actually the best place for the topic is here being there are at least half a dozen well informed 302 Ford gurus that always post/browse here and not the tech section. The tech section would be a waste.

Nic, you should take the parts from your dads car unless that is what you mean from a GT.

Apparently the battery was THAT dead. Just dropped a new one in it and it fired right up. lol knew it was something simple. Dammit that starter was a pain in the you know what too. Never done one of them on a car with longtubes before now.
