Default 46.2-1063 Altered Suspension Ticket

I searched already but couldnt find past threads that have had this information posted, if someone could post links to those threads also I would greatly appreciate it.

Now to my Issue:

Im trying to figure out where exactly the cop is supposed to measure to go get 14 inches?

When I got pulled over the officer measured from the ground to the bottom of my lip, and for some reason I believe that he measured to the wrong place. If anyone could please just tell me where on the front and rear of the car the officer is supposed to measure to it would be a great deal of help.

Thanks.

JT

Statute says to the bumper bar. If you took the bumper shell off what this is would be readily apparent to you. It is higher than the bottom of the lip (otherwise 14 inches would be absolutely ridiculous, people could only drive SUVs).

It should be from the bumper, the big metal thing under the plastic that people call their bumper. Go to a shop and have them measure it and right that your stuff is within legal limits and sign and bring that in to the thing dropped.

My friend got the same thing, i told him to do the same thing, and he got his dropped.

I didn't even know there were laws about ride height....I wonder if MD has anything on the books.

I don't get some of the shit they write tickets for...traffic cops are supposed to make sure the roads are safe...if it passes inspection that should be enough..ridiculous...just their way to make money I guess

There is the DOT standard which is nation-wide, check the local laws.

And they really should update that. I'm sure it was written when all bumpers were exposed. Now it just gives people another point to argue.

I think, but am not sure, that in MD it's just the old 4 inches of ground clearance requirement. I've never heard of them ticketing anybody though.
