Default runaway diesel

So I've just become a victim of a runaway diesel engine. I think I did pretty fast job of shutting it off besides the 150 feet of soot that was left behind my car and the blown passenger front tire haha. I had limp mode and finally got a new N75 that fixed it....2 minutes before the runaway diesel. I didn't really get on it...maybe 25 in second just seeing if the problem was fixed, which it was. And when I shifted into 3rd the engine just took off. I was pretty scared and I wasn't too stoked about pushing it home, especially since everyone came outside going HE WAS DOING A BURNOUT I SAW HIM. So we ran it home before the cops showed up haha.

Sorry if you didn't want to hear my story or anything....but I'm just wondering what I'm supposed to do now? I've never had this happen before. Do I just need to get it to a shop and let them do them? I know it's going to be expensive, especially if it needs a new head..but I'm not trying to get totally raped here. Any suggestions?

Oh..the victim of runaway diesel was a 2001 golf tdi.

edit- I know of plenty of VW shops...I'm just not sure if they can work on the diesel. I've heard plenty of horror stories.

How did you shut it down ? How long was it in run away mode? The main issue with a diesel run away diesel is stretching of the rods. Most run away ends in a catastrophic failure involving a long needing to be purchased hopefully you got it shut off before that. At least you did not send a piston though the side of the block.

Shove a phone book over the intake. I've heard stories of 7.3 Powerstrokes sucking it through and eating them though.

Most of the time a piece of small piece of ply wood or a piece of 2by 6 over the intake will work. Never use your hand though I knew a guy who did that and it will suck the blood out of your hand and use that as fuel. I thought that shit was crazy.

I got it shutoff pretty quickly (runaway for maybe 4 seconds tops?) by dumping the car in 5th.

The turbo seems fine, no wiggling, spins fine, looks good.
Engine was missing about 2 quarts of oil (but it was also <500miles before oil change)
Smokes white like a bitch, I don't know how long I should let it idle for. I know there's oil in there, but I don't know if it's just the leftovers from the incident or if theres a leak somewhere.
The sudden stop in 5th blew my front passenger tire.
My clutch won't grab, but it will say my car is going 15mph in 3rd gear. So...diff or something else?
The engine is making a funky noise, but I don't know if it's from the vibration of the engine moving...I think it might of destroyed the motor mounts.

A blown turbo seal probably caused it. I'd bet that the head is fucked too.
