latest game craze
HYPERMILING FTW  thats a GREEN smile
so have you been playing it? it's alot eaisier with a newer vehicle that has real time MPG display.. but i still do it even in my 85 corolla for a tank vs. miles avg.
Our 08 Scion xb is rated at- "The new model gets 22/28 mpg using the EPA's tougher fuel economy tests for 2008, but it's also considerably heavier (about 600 pounds) and then there's that bigger engine. "
but i have avg'ed 37.4mpg for the last 200ish miles since i have refueled the tank. Over the life of the tank (so long as the wife e doesnt drive it) it eaisily gets over 35mpg. the most i've got for a stretch was 40mpg.
heres a story with more info-
"But it was driving his wife's Acura MDX that moved Wayne up to the next rung of hypermiler driving. That's because the SUV came with a fuel consumption display (FCD), which shows mpg in real time. As he drove, he began to see how little things -- slight movements of his foot, accelerations up hills, even a cold day -- influenced his fuel efficiency. He learned to wring as many as 638 miles from a single 19-gallon tank in the MDX; he rarely gets less than 30 mpg when he drives it. "Most people get 18 in them," he says. The FCD changed the driving game for Wayne. "It's a running joke," he says, "but instead of a fuel consumption display, a lot of us call them 'game gauges'" -- a reference to the running score posted on video games -- "because we're trying to beat our last score -- our miles per gallon."
If people could see how much fuel they guzzled while driving, Wayne believes they'd quickly learn to drive more efficiently. "If the EPA would mandate FCDs in every car, this country would save 20 percent on fuel overnight," he says. "They're not expensive for the manufacturers to put in -- 10 to 20 bucks -- and it would save more fuel than all the laws passed in the last 25 years. All from a simple display."
try it out if you havnt already, post up your stock ratings and results with hypermiling!

Eh, I read an article on that a couple weeks back, and some of the stuff he was doing to save gas was just retarded. I'd rather enjoy driving my car than be stressing over gas mileage all the time. I'm fine with 23-25 mpg I typically get.
Yeah, that stuff's fine, but he was doing stuff like turning the car off and coasting through a 25mph corner at 50, and then coasting as far as he could. That just sounds stupid to me.
Are you referring to the guy with the newer Accord? He was getting close to twice, IIRC, the MPG of the EPA ratings.
yeah i dont go to that extreme.. (yet lol) basically i set the cruise at the speedlimit if im in no rush.
i'll read lights/stop signs and coast to them so when they turn green i am still rolling.
with parking lots, i'll quickly scan and find the nearest (to the entrance) open double spot and coast to it and thru the first spot to be pointing out in the second, preventing the need to reverse and pull out when leaving.
i dont go to the extreme of over inflating tires either, but i will try to hold off on the AC unless im sweating crazy.
some of these guys make homemade aero mods like insight looking wheel well covers, removing wipers, mooncaps, diffusers etc... they get laughed at im sure.. but i'd bet they are all getting 50mpg or better. in a contest, a corolla made over 100mpg avg. i forgot the page where i read that story.

Hypermiling is just going to cause more traffic problems and increase the number of accidents. If you can't afford the gas then you probably shouldn't have bought the SUV.

WhoTF are you talking to? this isnt a thread about what car has the best MPG. its about maximizing the mpg in whatever you drive- 10mpg SUV or 50mpg 'little honda'.
