Vtec Question

Default Vtec Question

I have an obd1 b16 when vtec pops it makes a rattleing sound in the head and seems like it cuts in and out im takin the valve cover off and check everything every thing was good ive checked for shorts and now im stuck so if any one has any suggestions I appreciate it>l

yea i kno. when conditions arent met for vtec, the ECU cuts back fuel at a certain but low rpm to stop you from damaging shit, its usually that your low on oil.

oil is good i check it everyday to make sure huh this is just a brain buster though i cant figure it out

yeah but it has a gsr obd2 wiring harness and for some reason the vtec wires are cut at least 3 times and spiced back together

If the splices are crap (which is often the case when people work on their own cars) the solenoid might not get getting enough current to keep it engaged continuously. If you do a continuity check, it will look perfectly fine because the multimeter current is very low. Operationally though, it might not be able to drive the coil into saturation.

I agree with Chris above..... why not rerun the wires instead?
