In a surprising move, the communist state of VA actually listend to its constituents and repealed the widely unpopular Abusive Driver Fees that ranged from $750 to $3,000 for drivers convicted of reckless driving, driving with a suspended licence and drunken driving. These fees were assesed in addition to the regular price of such a conviction. Don't get me wrong, those who are convicted of drunken driving deserve what's coming to them but to incur these fees for reckless driving?!? According to legislators these fees were enacted strictly to make the roads safer, (actually it was pretty clear that they were enacted to raise revenue for the Transportation Department) however the death toll for VA roads rose to over 1,000 for the first time since 1990. I say good riddance!

I realize that, and I usually have no problem with cops, but this guy was a total jerk.

 

Don't get your hopes up yet guys, it's not DONE YET, civic fees are still here, this bill still has to be approved in the STATE SENATE then SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR

 

This is great......but they even stated gas taxes are going to go up

 

They are talking about putting tolls in now to counter for the loss of revenue. This is the state of Va...they are gonna get it somehow.

 

That's why I'm all for the additional penalties...if they applied to everyone that travels on VA roads.
