License for Tow Truck

Simple question.

Do you need to have a commercial license to drive/operate a tow truck?

nope, i dont belive you do, my neighbor and boss both own and operate tow trucks and im pretty sure neither have a c.d.l

check dmv though

Depends on the size. The small tow trucks don't need one (<24,000 lbs GVW), but you need one for a larger truck or one that has air brakes.

ask g s x he drives one. i asked him when i saw him like a month ago. since i drive dump trucks i wasnt sure if they had to have them or not.he said next year you will have to have one

yes and soon you will have to take a tow operator class and pay something like $400 a year just to drive a tow truck. its horse shit, id hate to say it but i would look elsewhere for a job.

but shouldnt the company you work for pay for that? my company pays for all my stuff. my dot pysical test. getting my license and all that.but i also drive dump trucks so it is a little different.not sure how it works with other companys
