how do you go about cleaning a headliner...i have some Resolve and some auto carpet cleaner

Don't use any of that! I work at a detailing shop and the only thing we use is glass cleaner. Most stuff will pull the glue right off the headliner, leaving you with a droopy mess.

for the glass cleaner thing would you spray it on the cloth or spray it on the dirty area?
