What's the capacity for my S80 transmission? I read somewhere it was about 6 qts. but my D-series tranny only took a little under 2 qts. I'm buying Synchromesh and don't want to buy anymore than I need because of it's cost. Thanks for any help, Preston.

i think its no more than 3-4 tops

6qts is for the motor

Yeah, my LS only takes exactly 4 quarts.
For the transmission, just buy 4 to make sure.

 

i read in an 97 ls owners manual it said 2.2 quarts

 

I've never put more than 2.5 or so in mine.

And even then it starts to dribble out a little.

 

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. I swear one site said 6 for the tranny, but that seemed like too much to me. As far as oil, just changed mine 15 min ago and 4 qts. put me right in between the minimum/maximum holes. So probably 4.25-4.5 would be the most for the motor. BTW, I got 135 psi compression all the way across (I know it's low), does this seem typical for a motor with 165k that has probably never seen a valve adjustment it's entire life?
