BT
I went to the show last night. I didn't really think anybody else would actually be into going from here. Now, onto my review of the evening ...
Thomas Dolby - I had never heard of him. No clue who he was. Finding out he's the guy that wrote "She Blinded Me With Science" was great, especially since Mythbusters is one of my favorite shows.
So, to find out he 'did the theme song' was great. I also liked the little stories that he'd tell in between the songs. He really got the crowd involved. I liked the fact that he told us where he came from. As for the music, I thought it was really good. The vocals did kind of suck, as you couldn't hear them too well, but the actual music was good. I'm going to probably pick up that CD of his live set, I thought it was that good.
BT - Okay. This is where I get pissed and disappointed. I'm a big fan of BT. ECSM was a good CD. I'm totally in love with Movement in Still Life. Such a great CD. A little bit of dance and chill music, all at the same time. I honestly think it's his best work. So, when he came out and said that he was basically just going to re-create This Binary Universe, my heart kind of sank. Don't get me wrong - it's a really good CD, but that's not what I came for. I enjoyed the songs that he played, especially the last one from the CD, I guess the one dedicated to his daughter. That song was awesome. But, the whole thing was like a really loud lullaby. I was sitting at a table in the back and was finding myself falling asleep. And some of the songs didn't really mix well. He went from a real solemn beat and then tried to make it sort of dancey or whatever and then back to solemn again. They just didn't flow that great. It was nice to actually hear it in 5.1 sound though. The bass damn near blew my clothes off.
Then he came out with a cover of Gary Jules "Mad World" from the Donny Darko soundtrack. For only playing it a few times, they did a good job. I like how they actually made it harder. Then he closed with "Satellite". Undoubtedly my most favorite BT song, evAr. I honestly think he butchered it all to hell. Totally ruined my night.
Okay. So that's my review of the show. While BTs music was good, it wasn't what I came to hear. Sure, playing a few tracks from the new CD would be great. But also cover some of the older, more familiar stuff.

Ya my sister was there with some friend sand said if I came that she would buy my ticket. I went.
Thomas Dolby was good, loved the K-Fed story, he wasn't great and seemed to have never gotten out of the late 70's-80's electronic music.
BT I am not a fan of his music unless its in a Movie. I was totally diggin the Hurdy Gurdy tho. Then he'd bitch that people keep wanting to here house and trance, but that he was just gonna do his thing. Played "one for the frat boys wanting to hear house" but was gay, i do like donnie darko tho good flick.
I was not in the mood to hear dramatic cinematic music. I wanted something that was worth standing for. I was dissappointed to say the least. When does The Crystal Method come back into town? They can rock the Norva.

Yeah..I was expecting some more upbeat music. No matter, it's awesome that he's an artist, not some packaged product like a lot of musical acts these days. Maybe it was a big risk just performing Binary Universe, but I wasn't dissapointed at all. That was the first time I heard Binary Universe. The tribute song to his daughter was awesome, got a lump in my throat, I need to go out and make a kid now! BT is a true musical genius.
I perfer, Tiesto or PvD. They are the big names that destroy venues. But BT is good, its too I didnt know he was in the area. Unfortantly there is never enough advertiseing for these events. Because Trance/electronica is dead in this area.
I personally hated the show. Dolby was like a toned down elton john and had to talk for like 10 mins in between EVERY fucking song. that shit was annoying as hell. and then when BT came on and just played that chill-out shit i was like fuck this im bouncing. i stayed till like 1130 and my date and I were like F-that. DEFINITELY not what we paid 40 something bucks for.
