Default It's like having a new car!

Tonight I had Rex of Performance Tire & Wheel Services, Inc. (757) 810-6969 do a custom allignment on my car and put on two new front tires.

They have the latest and greatest Hunter computer/light allignment machine, road-force wheel balancing maching, and tire changing machine. Rex has a red C5 coupe and auto-x's a bunch and is a member of the Beachcomber's Corvette Club so he knows high performance vehicles.

To say I was impressed with the equipment and results would be an understatement.

My two front tires have been on the car since I got my CCWs in October of '03 and they the left front was chorded on the inner edge (too much toe out).

When I had the car alligned at another shop last year I requested the specs to be as follows:

Front
Camber -1.4 degrees
Caster + 6 w/o sacrificing camber
Toe 0

Rear
Camber -1.0 degrees
Toe 1/16" toe in per side (1/8th total)

When I left there the steering wheel was off to the side and the shop said it was the crown in the road... I ended up having the Chevy dealer straighten out the wheel.

The actual specs as measured today were:

Front
Camber: Left Front -1.9 degrees Right Front -1.1 degrees
Caster: Left Front 4.9 degrees Right Front 6.4 degrees
Toe: Left Front 3.2 degrees out! Right Front 0 toe

Rear
Camber Left Rear -0.9 degrees Right Rear -1.2 degrees
Toe: Left Rear 5/32 in Right Rear 5/32 in

As you can see the car was all over the place and the trust angle was very f'ed up. I tink the other shops equipment was out of calibration.

Left today w/ my specs sent just the way I want them... with the proper specs the car responds like it's on rails... plus the new tires make it ride a bunch better.

So if you need a custom and exact allignment, not just getting it w/ in factory specs, give rex a call.

VIR here I come.

Good stuff B... I'd like to come down with you this weekend, and thanks for the invite, but things are just too damn busy on my end... car shopping and etc. Hell, I just got done working on a customer's car for the night. Busy, busy.

Have fun at VIR!

Brian, did you happen to notice if they're open on Saturday (or sunday)? And do they require an appointment? The other place I was looking at requires an appointment because they have weeks worth of work scheduled. I will be in need of an alignment, but don't really want to leave my car on the southside forever.

Glad you were able to get the car dialed in right.

I think you should drop the dime on the other shop.

Please say it was Virginia Speed and they charged you $700 for the alignment.

They work by appointment, but I called last Thursday and they set me up for Tuesday after work. Just call them and they'll try and work with you. They charge $90.00 per hour. Some cars vary but mine cost me $90.00. Som cars that need shimming etc may be a bit longer.

No... PM me and I'll tell you, but I don't want to do that, they weren't trying to screw it up, just not trying that hard to get it right.

I don't mind that much honestly. If I even need an alignment in the 757 I'll ask you about it.
