ok, I recently bought a 99 eclipse gsx and it already seems to be living up to its DSM name . Anyway i was driving to college yesterday and pulled out onto denbigh blvd. and when i tried to shift into second gear it's like it just wasnt there, so i quickly tried to go into any other gear just to stay moving and i couldnt find any. it's like he entire H-gate was gone, i could just move the shifter as if the linkages were disconnected.. they werent, the werent broken either. if you move the shifter it moves the arm on the tranny. I'm normally a honda guy, just getting into dsm, anybody know what this could be or how i can fix it?

p.s. - i wasn't driving it hard when it happened, and the was no noise clanking or anything, clutch still feels like it's working just no gears. ive checked the manual and ran out of ideas.

 

Does your the speedo read speed while in gear?

 

it did... but it doesnt go into gear now

possible shift fork assembly broke.. there known for that. i have a fwd talon that shattered a 4th gear.. i was hopen it was the shift forks or one of them but it wasnt...

 

Yeah, that does sound like the shift fork is broken.

 

wow, i don't know much past the clutch and flywheel about transmissions.. that isn't something that can be fixed at home is it? does the tranny have to be replaced or would it be cheaper just to fix it?

 

find the right person and they can fix it if nothing else is messed up.

the easier route is to just replace it.

 

But would replacing it be the cheaper route?

 

pretty much, you find a tranny and I will replace it. I can take it out and fix what is broken, but it will cost you more. Ill PM you for more details.
