Default VW Diesel Jettas

I have been looking at trading my 98 ford v6 which is sadly getting 14mph highway...in for a nice 97 jetta...diesel....the dealer said they turbo diesel's get around 50mpg and around 500-600mpg on a damn full tank...i travel 200 miles each week....and iam spending 30 bucks a week at the pump for the gas sucker.....

Are the diesel jetta's pretty rock solid.......is it worth going diesel.....i know it costs more but damn if its cheaper to fill up once/twice a month minus 4 times.....

If you own one...or got any info tell me.....

I just paid my tarus off so its fair game....

Not to be an ass, but you're dead wrong. They do get about 50mpg and can get more like 700+ miles per tank. You'd be better off getting something 99+ IMO, but that's just a personal preference. Also, check into their mantainace costs. I don't know anything about that.

Wolfberg Jettas aren't TDI. they're 1.8T. they only made them in 2 years I believe. You should get a 99.5+ and up model TDI. The older ones are ew. I heard if you modify them right they can have A LOT of torque. I was looking for a TDI when I got my Jetta.. didn't find any that fit me or else I would definately like to have gotten the TDI since gas is expensive. I heard they aren't that bad to maintain.
