The only way possible for a miata valve to hit the piston is to have custom high lift cams. A stock cam even with os valves will not contact the piston EVER. Additionally, wiseco pistons have deeper reliefs than stock.

A loose timing belt/incorrect timing/loose adjustable cam gear will also cause valve to hit the piston....
