Yes they are, and after having driven both of them, I could go either way. The GTO has the better engine by far, and on a race track I'm sure the suspension works better. In real world day to day driving though, I think the Mustang is the better choice. The driving position is better. The interior is not only more attractive AND functional, it's alos made of much higher quality pieces and fits better. It rides better, undercut the GTO's price by a little bit, and definantly does have a "gotta have it" factor. It's new and it's cool. For the most part the GTO isn't an attention grabbing car. You can't take their ability to mod into account either. The magazine's job is to compare cars in their stock form. If I was going to buy one or the other to mod the shit out of and race, it would without a doubt be the GTO. If I had no plans to mod it I'd probably choose the 'stang.

but seriously, why must everyone get so defensive about their cars? just look at everyone out there who owns a honda, like me. my civic will never be as great as your 600whp rwd car. it doesn't have to be the fucking best car in the world, just realize how many cars cant compare. The Mustang GT and GTO are both incredible cars, now lets leave it there.
but ill still get better gas mileage
