VA taillight restrictions
The Virginia Code requires tail lights to be a "red light plainly visible in clear
weather from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of such vehicle."
Code 46.2-1013
here's an example
weather from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of such vehicle."
Code 46.2-1013
here's an example
Officer ****** observed that the red plastic
covering of appellant's tail light was out of place so that it
emanated both a red light and a white light that was plainly
visible to him from a distance. Because Officer ****** saw that
appellant's tail light deviated from the standard for tail lights
set forth in Code 46.2-1013, he had reason to conclude that
appellant was driving a car with a defective tail light.

As I quoted the same exact law before. Painted tails are fine, I had them checked by State Police not too long ago
. Anyway, I knew before I painted them that the light must be seen from 500ft away. But nowhere does it state what color the housings must be or anything of the nature.
If you take it to court. Tell the judge exactly what the law says then say "I just dropped knowledge like a clumsy librarian."

My two tails were completely blacked out, or smoked or whatever you wanna call it for almost a year. Cops sat behind me all the time and never said anything. I even got pulled over once when i still had them on and he didn't say anything. But i guess it depends on who you're dealing with.
COPS, and STATE police are 2 different people.
Mine are blacked out i get no problem but cars registered in texas so nothing they can really do! I got pulled and i told him i was registered in texas and he left me all pissed off Va laws are getting worse every year.
