I bet you could also just pull up the e-brake next time

That sounds so easy. Our shifters are pretty complexed. I don't how you could mount them so that they will get a reoccuring contact whn it is in gear...
It sounds like it might be easier to just mount a switch and flip it everytime you get in and out of the car. Or as Chris said.. use an ebrake.
