I believe the '05 Honda Civic Si is the same as it was a decade ago; the performance, low-weight, sportier version of an economy-car. It's simply modernized.
It believe it is the fastest and best handling Si ever in production. I think it looks a bit obscure, and the interior ergonomics are little odd, but it's still a good car.
The price is what gives me the gripes. For the sticker price on a brand new Si, you could also have an SRT-4 - a car that would, incidentally, walk the dog on an Si.
