It is possible but it's not as easy as swapping heads and getting an ex wiring harness like THURMAN said, you need the harness, however your going to need to tap into your oil pan and run an oil return line for vtec and i'm not sure of what else your going to need or do so if anybody knows what else to do help me out here.

I believe that's only for LS/Vtec conversions or turbo upgrades. I've looked through numerous SOHC vtec conversion how-tos and none say anything about this.

You still need to tap for oil cause vtec won't run without oil, you have to have a vtec ecu i.e d16y8 head and ecu. You won't be able to run a vtec head on a non-vtec motor without the ecu, nothing will happen or the car might run like shit, I did a manual conversion swap on my civic and was running the AT ecu and it ran fine but when my friend and I swapped in his ex ecu, the car ran like shit.

Hm. Maybe those guys on Honda-tech could use some advice on writing how-tos about vtec conversions.

I'm not saying they're wrong or I'm right, but in my experience and knowledge that I know, what i've said is a part of doing a head swap especially when this guy is trying to put a vtec head on a non-vtec bottom end, that's all I'm saying

One of my friends put a mini-me together for his girl and no tapping or machining was involved at all. And yea vtec worked fine.

Well there we have it then, its not in the how-tos from honda-tech, hondaswap, or superhonda. Therefore no tapping will be necessary.
