How can you tell ? Looks like there's electric tape over the severely damaged area.

you can easily fix that without replacing the whole area. the only trouble in fixing it would probably be along the bottom because the metal has stretched.

I don't know 100% as I haven't seen the car in person, I'm only going on the information that I've been given.

Someone kicked in the side of my car in the same spot. Was nearly as bad but left a probably 1-2ft diameter dent. The total for repairs at coxtons was 800 dollars. Onestop wanted like 900. thats a lot worse.

after looking at the pictures the dent doesnt seem that big? or am i looking at it wrong.

Edit: yea i looked at it wrong. it shouldnt cost but 500-700 probably. my guess because my car to fix the back quarter panel its not just one piece. Its the whole driver side of my car so they had to paint the whole side.

The paint/bodywork on the rest of the car is pretty solid, I know its had some paintwork in the past but the carfax looks good.

These are all I have to go on for now, so excuse me if they aren't the best. I've already asked the owner if hes had a quote regarding the bodywork and am waiting on a reply. Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.
From my experience its not. I had a hatch that had been rear ended, the front was hit twice, but I didn't know because I was locked up at the time and my homegirl had it fixed and it looked straight for awhile.

But I guess they couldn't make it like it was because after awhile I could see the ripples in the. Paint from where they srtaightened it out and the hatch didn't line up the same anymore.

I personally don't like to have a car that's had that much body work or needs that much bodywork. It will never be the same, that's why I got rid of that car, the frame was bent a little too.

But that's just me. Gl though.

Just tell the seller that you would like to go with him to get an estimate on the car. Depending on the price to fix it will depend on if you will buy it or not. He shouldnt have a problem.

He emailed me scans of quotes ranging from $800 to $1500. The lower quotes were from shops that said that they could fix the existing panel, whereas the higher quotes were from shops that wanted to cut/replace the entire panel. I'm going to take a look at the car next week and make my decision. Its a high mileage 540i 6speed but the deal is good enough that I think it would be worth the headache. Even after fixing the damage the price I'm looking at is well under blue book.
