yes. anything is technically illegal in VA. BUT, cops dont pull people over for stupid stuff, except the things that you generally hear about. Like exhaust, neons, etcs.

Well, I have the factory taillights in but they are painted Black.

I found a link and checked the laws. They just have to be seen from 500 feet in a clear day. I believe they do. I am contesting it.

actually, as long as they have a DOT number on them, then they are completely legal. I fought the same ticket in Norfolk and won.

ditto on that....basically as long as they have the DOT number on them(and its legit) and as long as the bulb color is white, red or amber(for the proper lights, no blue back up lights) your good...cops in va bch tried to stick me with one but when i pointed out the lights were actually DOT legal they left me alone. best advice i can give you is get your ammo in line if you plan to fight it, or just pay the 89 dollars(i think its still about that amount) and move on

if you have tinted tail lights, then im pretty sure its illegal, but if the housings are blacked out then you should be fine. my friend has a part of his tail light "smoked" not completely black or even all that dark, and its not noticeable unless its pointed out

My two tails were completely blacked out, or smoked or whatever you wanna call it for almost a year. Cops sat behind me all the time and never said anything. I even got pulled over once when i still had them on and he didn't say anything. But i guess it depends on who you're dealing with.

and ive heard stories of people that have fought it and loss. the actual law states any equipment that is not stock or like stock (meaning to look and perform the same as stock) altezzas, even if they are dot approved, can net you a ticket in the v.a.
