EDIT - had to change my weights. Surprised the car is under 3900lbs... figured 4100ish.
Seriously?

The GT500 is coming in about 30K less than the Z06 and 60K less than the ZR1 for way more power and I suppose the ZR1 would have the same power issues since it is SC'd

Plus even in the article, they're doubting people are going to track them.

Also I'm trying to figure out where you got your numbers on the weight of the ZR1/Z06. Just read the R&T where they run all the Corvettes togetehr and they said the ZR1 was only about 90lbs heavier than the Z06

Valid - but even in the test they complain about brake fade after a couple of laps. I think the Z06 or the ZR1 could be flogged on all day w/o losing brakes.

However, even if you compared all the specs, Corvettes shouldn't be compared to the mustang, they're two different class of cars. The mustang never started at or was never intended as a sports car they way the corvette is; expecting it to be ZR1 weight then to remain a mass produced four seater is just stupid. This mustang should be compared to the camaro - which it absolutely decimates. I am curious about the reliability of this motor. Pumping that much air into that motor is moving a lot of heat.

I think spending a little extra on some good brake pads isn't too much to ask for a fully capable track car. IMO.

The 4.6 in the 03 Cobras and the 5.4 in the GT500s has been pretty much bullet proof>

I said a while ago I;d much rather have this GT500 as a daily driver and a Z06 as a track car any day

When Ford released the SN197 body style GT500 they took 3 to a drag strip and ran them all day long for an entire weekend. I don't remember the exact number of passes the cars had with zero issues but it was something like 1000 passes total. I'd be surprised if Ford didn't do something similar to see if this new engine can handle it.

We'll see. Like I said; apprehensive. Not saying its impossible, but the HP:L is up there and that's a LOT of power trying to move a lot of weight.

LOL... yeah because a set of track pads will make it a track monster. A 3900lb car that can probably hit 160s on the straight at VIR is going to go through a few sets of pads/rotors per weekend.

You're the weekend racer. I was just going by the article and making a statement based on the info available.

If you wanted to turn into solely a weekend racer such as your vette, you could shed plenty of weight to make it more formidable. I just think it's interesting a see a MUSTANG make the vettebros sweat a little.
