Why? I lived in Hawaii for years and people had them mounted nose first all the time. Some were fin first, but I just assumed it was no big deal

nose first, more prone to have the board get lift, and if your shit isn't strapped down well, bye bye board. Also, fins first, if they get loos, the fins act as a stop to keep the board from slipping right out.


Surfing 101
The proper way to position your board on top of a car is with the fins in the front and the nose facing the rear of the car. The fins must be turned up, toward the sky; this better channels the wind around the board. Two sets of straps are needed, one at each soft pad, to secure the tail and nose of the board.
