Dope. How does the two speed work on a moped? It isn't a manual set up is it?
I've never actually ridden one... From what I understand it's automatic but I've heard it helps and is less stress on the clutches or something if you let off the throttle at the shift point and then pick up the pace
So I bought a two speed tomos engine tonight... Gonna try my hand at swapping the batavus engine

His is automatic. 2 separate clutches I believe. Imagine the Ruckus clutch without a vari up front ( a fixed gear in its place ), but 2 clutches in the rear in a "stepped" bell. put stock springs on the bigger clutch and reds on the smaller. Engine RPM controls the shifting. its easy to notice to because it slips a little in between gears. ( <--not sure if that helped or not ) Lots of different multi-speed setups back in the day- Some older mopeds were manual at the grips...like a mountain bike. The Honda Hobit moped had a crude version of what we know as a "variator".

Yep. The Sachs under my porch is a 2 speed. Slips pretty bad in between gears. To shift it quick we would grab the brakes but never let out on the throttle- it would slow the chain speed at the tooth gear but keep revs up so it would shift quick Ive ridden the 2-speed version of my JAWA and it is baby smooth like a variator... almost impossible to notice it shifting.
