i need to figure out how to carry 2 dogs, 2 adults, and 1 or 2 kids in the truck on a regular basis (possibly with some gear in there as well depending on what im doing.)
and only way i can see that happening in a truck is adults up front.... kids seats in the back seats.... and dogs / gear in the back (but VA laws say youre not allowed to have dogs in an open truck bed... it has to be enclosed.
I see people all the time with dogs in the back of their truck beds, without being enclosed (aside from the tailgate 'keeping them in')... Maybe it's a law that's not enforced? Or maybe it's area specific in terms of where it's enforced? I'd make that decision solely on how well behaved the dogs are, and how far you'd intend to transport them out in the open like that.
I guess a camper shell wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if absolutely necessary, but I don't generally like the looks of them.

theres a guy around my area with a f150 that has his two big dogs in the back ALL the time. he leaves em in the back when he goes into stores too and they stay in there.
i think he got hassled once cause for awhile he put em in the front seat in a regular cab truck. now hes back to the bed
