Our first Doberman we got him into Shutzhund obedience training, which is pretty awesome but he died last year so we didnt get too far

uughhhh the more i look for these things if i want a GOOD one from a reliable breeder im going to have to spend $1500 ish

Pretty much, if you want a full breed. There is a guy in the classifieds selling a GSD/Lab mix, but i assume you want a full GSD.
A lot of times you just happen to get lucky and the dog and/or breeder crosses your path.
